Welcome to the El Dorado Sea Dragons! We are a competitive swim team based right here in El Dorado, Kansas, proudly serving swimmers of all skill levels from ages 5 to 18. As part of the Great Plains Swim League, our team offers swimmers the opportunity to compete in USA Swimming-sanctioned meets, adhering to official USA Swimming rules and guidelines.
Our mission is to provide a positive, supportive environment where young swimmers can develop their skills, improve their fitness, and foster a love for the sport. Whether you're a beginner just starting or an experienced swimmer looking for competitive challenges, the Sea Dragons are here to help you reach your goals.

Parent Information Guide
Welcome to the Sea Dragons! Whether your child is brand new to swimming or returning for another season, we’re excited to have your family as part of the team. This guide is meant to answer common questions and help you know what to expect throughout the summer.
Practice Schedule
Practices run Monday through Friday and are divided by age group:
- 12 & Under: 7:15 – 8:00 AM
- 13 & Over: 8:00 – 9:00 AM
This structure allows swimmers to train with others in similar age groups and skill levels while keeping practices focused and efficient.
First Week of Practice
We begin the season a little differently. During the first week, practices are held at Wichita State University’s Heskett Center. This gives swimmers a chance to get comfortable in the water without worrying about cold temperatures or unpredictable weather.
- Practices that week are two hours long
- Families typically carpool to WSU
After the first week, we transition to our regular outdoor schedule and shorter practice times.
Swim Meets
Swim meets are held on Tuesdays throughout the season. We are part of the Missouri Valley & Great Plains Swim League, which includes teams from Derby, Haysville, Valley Center, Winfield, and Wellington.
- Some meets are hosted at our pool
- Others require travel to different towns
The season wraps up with a League Championship meet, where all teams come together for a fun and competitive finale.
What Does “USA Swimming Sanctioned” Mean?
Our meets are sanctioned by USA Swimming. In simple terms, this means:
- Swimmers compete under the same rules and standards used at the highest levels of the sport, including Olympic competition
- Stroke technique, starts, and turns are all judged according to official guidelines
- It helps swimmers build strong fundamentals and confidence in a structured, fair environment
For swimmers, this creates a great opportunity to learn the sport the right way from the start.
Volunteer Expectations
Like most summer swim teams, Sea Dragons is completely volunteer-run. Every meet depends on parent involvement to run smoothly.
One of the easiest (and surprisingly fun!) ways to help is by being a lane timer. You’ll have a front-row seat to the action, get to know other families, and cheer on swimmers as they race. Many parents find it becomes one of their favorite parts of the season.
Communication
Once your swimmer is registered, we use TeamReach as our main form of communication. This is where you’ll find updates about practices, meet details, weather changes, and other important announcements throughout the season.
It’s also a great resource if you ever have questions. There are lots of families in the group with years of swim team and parent experience, so it’s an easy place to ask questions, get advice, and stay connected.
Registration & Fees
There are a couple of steps to join the team:
- Register with USA Swimming
- Register with the Sea Dragons team

USA Swimming Fee:
This fee provides swimmers with:
- Insurance coverage during practices and meets
- Official athlete membership
- Access to sanctioned competitions
Team Dues:
- $95 for an individual swimmer
- $155 for a family
Team Gear
Swimmers will also need:
- A team suit
- Optional spirit items such as a team shirt, swim cap, and towel (available to order at the start of the season)
